Designed by Jimmy White, the story, like all fisherman’s stories. is hard to believe. He used hair from a dog named Gary, owned by a local priest. Other names attributed to the fly are Minister’s Golden or Yellow Dog. Rated highly in all rivers, particularly those with a dark peat strain. All the names like the fly are wonderfully appealing. Country of origin Scotland.
A very popular fly in Scotland, designed by Colin Simpson. In Scotland we use the old adage ‘use a bright fly on a bright day and a dark fly on a dark day’. The Blue Charm meets this ethos in the middle, sophisticated but subtle.
This colourful black and orange brown and gold salmon fly is effective all around the world. In its original form it was called The Great Storm. It is particularly successful in rivers that are naturally dark, very useful in coloured water and to turn heads on a discerning sleeve!
